Warforge Veterans

Your adventure begins in the browser.

Play with your party

Create a realm room or join your friends. The browser downloads the game program, then fetches the world, creatures, spells and sounds as they are needed. Downloaded assets are cached for later visits.

The first visit takes longer. Use a desktop browser with WebGPU and hardware acceleration enabled.

Sign in with your account name and password to access your saved characters. Browser cache stores downloaded files; the realm server saves your characters, equipment and talents. Import an older save from Character Selection if you still have its legacy code or browser session.

Browser client for self-hosting

Download the compiled browser program and interface, with a SHA-256 checksum. This package needs the matching realm server and separately mounted game Data files. It does not contain the world archives or a standalone game installer.

Windows client

The same game, realm and account as the browser, with the world rendered natively by DirectX 12 or Vulkan. The download contains no game data: the first launch downloads the world files it needs from the realm (a few hundred MB over the first minutes of play) and caches them under %LOCALAPPDATA%\WarforgeVeterans. The client updates itself at launch when the realm publishes a new build (about 60 MB).

Requirements: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), a graphics card with DirectX 12 or Vulkan, the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime (already on Windows 11 and up-to-date Windows 10 PCs) and an internet connection.

Checking for the Windows client…

  1. Download the zip.
  2. Extract the zip anywhere you can write to, such as Documents\WarforgeVeterans (not Program Files: the client updates itself in that folder).
  3. Double-click warcraft-survivors.exe. The program is not code-signed, so Windows may say “Windows protected your PC”: choose More info, then Run anyway.
  4. Play: it updates itself at launch. Sign in with your realm account, then create or join a room as in the browser.

Faster: use your own game files. Optional, not required: the client streams the world files from the server by default. To keep everything on your PC, run run-native.ps1 -DownloadData once in the game folder. It downloads the original World of Warcraft 1.12.1 client archives (5.5 GB; about 11 GB of free space while it unpacks) into %LOCALAPPDATA%\WarforgeVeterans\wow-data, and the game uses them from then on, even when you double-click the exe. Add -Editions vanilla, tbc, wrath for all content (31.6 GB; about 46 GB of free space): with 1.12.1 alone the Outland and Northrend zones have no world files. If the download is interrupted, run the same command again: it resumes. Or point -DataFolder at an existing World of Warcraft 1.12.1 install. Full install guide and troubleshooting
